STARTING FROM THE IDEAL
If we were to build a city from scratch, we would start with understanding why cities were created in the first place, which was and still is survival and growth.
Basic Human Rights & Needs, Public Health and Wellness, and Community and Culture, is the foundation for a healthy society to thrive. Cities are formed out of Community and Culture, which are created from people coming together to survive and thrive. Community and Culture is created around Communication, Comradery, Companionship, and Collaboration, which create a society – and then a city sprouts. This is the foundation of our society, as I see it. A society has beliefs and codes that are collectively written, unwritten, and adhered to, which create a moral compass or ethical way of operating – the essence of Ethics.
Ethics protect our society, our people, and the individual.
When we take a good look at our city and its infrastructure, as it is currently, we can see that we have a broken system. COVID-19, at the absolute least, exposed all the problems we have in our foundation. First, we have to identify the local problems within individual communities. Then, holistically, we can innovate and develop solutions.
Education is a big part of the problems we would need to address. We have to rework our educational system. starting with scholastic learning and our vocational training programs. Any real solution would have to start there.
Next, to deal with the broader set of problems facing Basic Human Rights & Needs, Public Health & Wellness, and Community & Culture., and develop comprehensive solutions for these things, we would need to: 1.) bring together community, city, state, private and public experts. These experts would need to collaborate and build solutions that play off each other, as the NYC problems are interconnected. 2. We will also, in parallel, Train & Educate the labor pool in NYC to help us fix these problems resulting in Jobs Creation. 3. Our plan will be rooted in the spirit of Innovation & Entrepreneurship – the kind of perspective that reimagines our Infrastructure, and our city’s Government & Agencies from the ground up. 4. Once we have instituted a 21st century operating system and management philosophy/structure – we can do things like make sure that the city has Housing & Buildings that are affordable and equitable for citizens – opportunities where people can RENT TO OWN. All of this will help incentivize our communities to collaborate and get involved in the city’s transformation, which will help revitalize the city and its Economy from within, using all of our innovative ideas and collective energy. Our goal is to create equity for all New Yorkers, where all communities will flourish, grow, prosper and thrive – united.
Below is a closer glance at the problems we have discovered, and how we intend to address them with unified community-based solutions.
Please keep in mind, my plan is part sequential and part intuitive. Unconventional times tend to require some unconventional approaches with some conventional wisdom, so for these 10 points below, I am bringing together community, city, state, private and public experts to build solutions. The experts will work as a team, with a leader heading up each of the 10 categories.
